Remember back in the day when teaching was about the kids? Specifically, educating them? Those were good times, weren’t they? These days, teaching is about the teachers’ unions. And Viagra.
Yeah, you heard me.
The Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association let go of hundreds of teachers in June due to budget shortfalls, but is suing the school board for the lack of Viagra in the educators’ health care plan.
They claim that it’s a matter of gender discrimination.
Union lawyer Barbara Quindel said the case was worth fighting despite the district’s grim finances. Quindel said erectile dysfunction is associated with heart disease, prostate cancer, and other conditions, and the drugs are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and recommended by the American Urological Association.
“MTEA believes that men should not be discriminated against in receiving treatment for their medical conditions,” she said.
Seriously, people. There is something very wrong with the world that this is even a story. I do feel bad for the guy that can’t get it up, but I fail to see how that’s Mrs. Milwaukee Taxpayer’s problem.

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” — Margaret Thatcher
Not a day has gone by in the past two years that I have not heard, spoken, or at least thought these words. I have been frustrated over and over again by well-meaning friends that believe that the government should take care of us from the moment we enter the world until the moment we leave it.
The government should pay for our mother’s prenatal health care, our childhood vaccinations, our educations, our food and housing, medical care when we need it, and our retirements.
It’s the right thing to do. Everyone deserves a good life, and it’s just so unfair that some people are born as Paris Hilton while others are born in slums. (Although it’s probably a toss-up as to which of those two fates is worse than the other.)

I think the tanning rays may have finally seeped into the Florida Governor’s skull. Dude was on top of the world a couple of years ago. His name was even tossed around as one of the VP hopefuls for the 2008 Presidential ticket. Of course, that was before Senator McCain picked that smart and sassy nobody from the great white North.
That was Before.
Before a man was seated in the Oval Office that really didn’t like America, and sought to fundamentally transform it.
Before our President appointed a 9/11 Truther to be one of his close, personal advisors. A 9/11 Truther, in case you weren’t aware, is someone that believes the United States was behind the horrific 9/11 attacks. As in planned them. Yeah. That’s bad.
Before the government took over banks, car companies, and even our health care.
Governor Crist was riding the wave of popularity Before. He was a shoo-in for the Senate seat left vacant by retiring George LeMieux. But that was Before.
After?
After the last year and change (and I do mean change), Crist represents a deviation of the Republican party. The Moderate. The Moderate is squishy. He tries to please everyone, and in effect pleases no one. He is not a RINO (Republican In Name Only), but he is not a conservative. He does not align himself with the principles set forth by the awesome dudes that founded the greatest, richest, strongest, most spectacularly free nation in the history of the world. Well, except for Eden, but that was even before Before.
We (and by “we” I mean Americans) are done with the Moderate. We want him him out. He embraced the Leftist Change, and now we want people that will fight for their constituents to change it back. Which is why we like peeps like Marco Rubio.
A year ago, Rubio was down in the polls by 40+ points. Now he’s ahead of Crist by well over 20 points. The Cuban nobody. No important family ties. No giant bank account. He hasn’t even “done his time” as they like to say in the government job sector. But the people? Oh the people are speaking. They like this fresh young conservative eager to change it back. They love his pledge for freedom from government interference in their lives.
They probably love his face too; the guy’s not bad to look at.
So how does Charlie Crist respond to this changing tide? By pondering running as an Independent instead of being beaten at the primaries by this Rubio kid. In a statement today he addressed those questioning his irrational thought process:
“I care what my fellow Floridians think and what their thoughts are much more than anybody from Washington.”
Dude. Florida is speaking. You’re not listening. Run however you want-Republican, Independent, or as the Florida Whig Party. You’re not going to Washington. You may have a few years ago, but that was Before.
People like Marco Rubio are After.

I seriously think the media is punking us. Here are some of today’s news stories:
Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) is worried that the tiny island nation of Guam is going to tip over into the sea if the population becomes too dense.
In a discussion regarding a planned military buildup on the Pacific island, Johnson expressed some concerns about the plans to Adm. Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific fleet.
“My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize,” Johnson said. Willard paused and replied, “We don’t anticipate that.”
The President of the United States is selling t-shirts, which is sort of weird on it’s own, but I could totally see if it were to raise money for Haiti or something. The money’s not going to Haiti though. It’s going to Barack Obama. Oh yeah, the shirts say “BFD” in big bold letters. Yup. Ladies and gents, the leaders of the free world are selling t-shirts that glamorize swearing. To me, that’s a Big F***ing Deal.
Meredith Vierra tried to stretch a story so far that I think she may have pulled a hamstring. On today’s Today show, she asked Senator Jim DeMint if he would condemn the atrocious language of the tea partiers that want to burn Nancy Pelosi at the stake. Huh? Ok, here’s the thinking. Someone at a tea party waved a broom at Ms. Pelosi and said, “Sweep the bums out of Washington!” So obviously he’s calling Nancy Pelosi a witch. And witches must be burned at the stake.
A woman got evicted from her apartment over some peeps.
The Enron scandal has been made into a Broadway musical.
Ronald McDonald has been called upon to retire, because “he is no friend to our children our their health.”
I don’t know about you, but I keep hoping to see Ashton Kutcher. Because if all the above stories are accurate, then we’ve got bigger problems than being punked.

From Yahoo Finance:
Vice President Joe Biden wants all Americans to know about the roughly $300 billion in tax breaks that were part of the Recovery Act passed last year.
There’s also the issue of whether these tax cuts, in conjunction with the health care reform bill signed last week, represent a redistribution of wealth in America, as many claim.
“It’s a simple proposition to us: Everyone is entitled to adequate medical health care,” Biden says. “If you call that a ‘redistribution of income’ – well, so be it. I don’t call it that. I call it just being fair – giving the middle class taxpayers an even break that the wealthy have been getting.”(Emphasis mine)
Hey Joe, I think everyone’s entitled to a representative government. You don’t mind if we drastically slash your pay, do you? While we’re at it, I think everyone is entitled to organic meats and produce to feed their families. I would love to buy only organic, but the price is so high that I simply can’t do it. I demand a government subsidy. And why am I still getting a water bill each month? Isn’t water a necessity? Of all the things you can’t live without, I’d put water second on the list, right after air. It’s so unfair that I have to pay for water, when it should be a basic human right.
Are you getting the picture, Joe, or should I go on? Or did I just provide you with a whole new list of government programs? That’s a scary thought.
The fact is that people have rights so long as they don’t infringe upon the rights of another person. To say that one person has the right to a service provided by someone else is not fair, it’s insane.

This morning I came across one of the more delusional articles I’ve read recently. Aside from anything on the Daily Kos, that is. Written by Brent Budowsky, the piece attacked Matt Drudge as being a propagandist and anyone that reads his site as being fed biased opinions.
Here are some of my favorite lines:
Drudge only reports the polls he likes, which gives a warped view of the state of the nation.
It is true that countless lazy individuals in media just read Drudge, patronize his propaganda, and parrot his party line like robots. His influence is unquestioned and immense.
Drudge may not report it, but the healthcare bill passing has put the president on the upswing, Democrats lead Republicans in the Gallup poll, the negatives of the healthcare bill are starting to recede, independents are alienated by right-wing extremism, the jobs picture I predict will soon brighten, and the Democratic base is finally being motivated.
Drudge only reports on the stories he likes, but NBC, CBS, and ABC report on everything, fairly and squarely? Mmm-hmmm. Yup, and they parrot Drudge all the time. Right. (You can’t see me, but I’m rolling my eyes as I write this.) If you believe that major media outlets didn’t (and still do!) have a slobbering love affair with Obama, then I can’t help you. Seriously. Move along. Come back when you start to realize that hard work and integrity built our country, not entitlement and handouts.
As for the passage of the health care bill raising President Obama’s approval rating… all I can say is duh. All the people that were upset with him because he hadn’t passed the bill yet are soothed by his rhetoric once again. That doesn’t mean much. Just because a picture is worth a thousand words:

One more thing. If independents are alienated by right-wing extremism, how does Mr. Budowsky explain Scott Brown? Bob Mcdonnell? Chris Christi? Shall I go on? I’m sure the list will be quite extensive come November.
But who knows? Maybe I’m just a deluded Republican. At least I’m in good company. I’ll take Matt Drudge any day of the week over Keith Olbermann.

Remember Bart Stupak? He was the “pro-life” House Democrat that caved to peer-pressure and voted for the health care bill along with ten of his cronies. The next day, the bill was signed into law by President Obama. But don’t worry, President Obama signed an executive order that would outlaw federally funded abortions. Except for the fact that that order isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.
Why would they cave, I wonder? What could be the cost of 11 votes that would tip the scale on the health care bill that has nothing to do with health care? Apparently it costs $3.4 billion.
The 11 House Democrats led by Rep. Bart Stupak who dropped their opposition to health care reform legislation mere hours before the final vote have requested $3.4 billion in earmarks — and one watchdog group wants to know whether the money represents business as usual or political payoffs.
Stupak’s office said there’s absolutely no link between the earmarks and the health care bill’s passage.
Sure. There’s absolutely no link between my happy hubby and my new pair of shoes either. Give and take. Making deals. You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. It’s part of being human. But we’re not playing with other people’s money. Democrats are.

From Business Week:
March 26 (Bloomberg) — AT&T Inc. will book $1 billion in first-quarter costs related to the health-care law signed this week by President Barack Obama, the most of any U.S. company so far.
A change in the tax treatment of Medicare subsidies triggered the non-cash expense, and the company will consider changes to the benefits it offers current and retired workers, Dallas-based AT&T said today in a regulatory filing.
Do liberals thinks that businessmen have huge vaults of gold that they swim around in like Scrooge McDuck? That any and all profit they make gets locked away just so that greedy executives can have the pleasure of staring at it, smelling it, touching it?
Um, no. You see, people like to be successful. They like to make their businesses bigger and better. You know, creating those… uh… what were they called again? Oh yeah. Jobs. Didn’t people used to like having those things? I guess it doesn’t really matter anymore, since the government is now going to take care of all of our problems.
Do you know what happens when businesses get heavily taxed, yet don’t see any benefits? They have to make up that cost somewhere. Either with layoffs or by raising the price of their products or services. Or both.
But hey, at least we have free health care now.
At least until the doctors are too taxed to work.
