Both.

Tim Tebow is a Heisman trophy-winning quarterback for the University of Florida.  As a home-schooled kid from a Christian family, he shatters the stereotype that kids taught by their parents at the kitchen table grow up to be abnormal, socially stunted adults.  Arguably the best college football player in the country, Tebow remains centered in his faith and family.

Pam Tebow was serving as a missionary in an orphanage in the Philippines with her husband Bob and Tim’s older siblings when she was pregnant with Tim.  She suffered from a parasitic infection, and doctors predicted a still birth and advised Pam to abort the baby for her own health.  She refused, and gave birth to a healthy, full term baby boy.

Focus on the Family has sponsored a 30 second add to appear during Superbowl XLIV, which features the Tebows and include some sort of “choose life” message.  And you know how pro-women groups feel about people choosing life.  They really can’t stand it, can they?  It’s interesting to me that they get so angry about it.  I mean, if there’s nothing wrong with abortion, why do they get so upset about women choosing not to do it?

The Women’s Media Center and the National Organization for Women are going absolutely bonkers, accusing Focus on the Family of being “extremely intolerant and divisive and pushing an un-American agenda,” and pushing an “anti-abortion vitriol has resulted in escalated violence against reproductive health providers and their patients.”  Whoa, that’s harsh.

So what does Tim Tebow have to say about the ad and about his mother’s decision to choose life?

“I know some people won’t agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe…[T]hat’s the reason I’m here, because my mom was a very courageous woman. So any way that I could help, I would do it.”

Bravo to the Tebow family for standing firm in their beliefs in the face of tough opposition.  I applaud you for not being afraid to exercise your 1st amendment right to free speech.  Even if that speech is difficult for some people to hear.  And to those that would deny the Tebows, Focus on the Family, and CBS the 30 second advertisement, I have two words for you: mute button.

Do you watch Fox News? It’s on quite a bit over here.  My six year old even said the other day, “Why is Glenn Beck always crying?” At that point, I flipped it off and laughed for ten minutes straight.

I choose Fox over MSNBC or CNN because I think it does a better job of reporting the news.  The anchors don’t call other Americans rude and vulgar names, talk about tingles up their leg, or fail to report on major world news like a stolen election in Iran.

Plus, we have Megyn Kelly and they have Rachel Maddow.  Do a quick Google image search if you don’t know what I’m talking about. :-)

Maybe because we’re not filled with the bitterness of fighting a non-existent war with The Man (we already know we’re equals, and screw you if you don’t agree), but conservative women just seem to be prettier.  Happy.  Glowy.  Smiley.  I don’t think there’s one unfortunate looking babe female professional news anchor or contributor on Fox News. Well, except for Shep Smith, of course.

And today the news broke that one more intelligent and beautiful woman is joining the ranks: Sarah Palin.  Time will tell if this is a good move on her part, but I know one thing for sure.  This is going to make for some great TV.

The Smart Girl Report

About 30 years ago, film director Roman Polanski plied a 13 year old girl with champagne and drugs, stripped her down for a “photo shoot” in a hot tub, and then proceeded to rape and sodomize her.  He pled guilty to the entire thing in hopes of a plea bargain, but felt that the judge would throw him in jail for 100 years, so he fled the country.  Last weekend, he was arrested in Zurich, and he now faces extradition to the United States. He was not arrested sooner because he’s been living in France all this time, and apparently the French government doesn’t mind if confessing pedophiles roam the streets.  In fact, they celebrate it, and are ticked off that he was arrested.

The ladies of The View discussed the situation on Monday, debating whether or not it was really rape-rape.  After all, it happened a very long time ago, and Polanski is a very gifted filmmaker.  And the girl’s mom was in the building at the time (doesn’t this fact make it even more gross?).  And even though she was drunk and drugged, and even though she said no, she was aware of what was happening-so was it really rape-rape?  Whoopie Goldberg said, “He was not charged … I know it wasn’t rape-rape. I think it was something else … but I don’t believe it was rape-rape.”

I didn’t know that there was such a thing as fake-rape.  Anytime a 44 year old inebriates a 13 year old with alcohol and drugs, and then has sex with that 13 year old-it’s rape.  Oh ok.  Drugs and alcohol don’t even have to be involved.  It’s still rape.  Real rape.  Rape-rape.  I can’t stand that there are people like Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese calling for Polanski’s release.  Seriously?  The dude RAPED a child!  That’s not something to just brush under the rug.

It seems that there is finally a subject to unite conservatives and liberals.  Aside from a few of the Liberal Elite, almost every American is outraged by the reverence for Polanski.  Even the super liberal National Organization for Women has slammed him and his defenders.  “He’s a criminal. He is a convicted criminal pedophile,” said Terry O’Neill, president of NOW. “How dare Roman Polanski think he could get away with this. I believe he has banked on men — powerful decision-makers — who are more intent on protecting rapists than children. This is the world Polanski is exploiting. It’s outrageous.”  Who knew that the vast majority of Americans were against rape?

All of my liberal friends (yes, I do have them) are upset.  One friend in particular sometimes refers to herself as Bizaro-Jenny since our political views are pretty much as opposite from each other as you can get.  Here’s what she had to say about Polanski:

I am shocked at the number of people that are supporting Polanski. It isn’t like he is coming back for a trial and could still be innocent. He pled guilty to raping a 13 year old girl. He has had an active arrest warrant for 30 years. When you pled guilty you know that the judge doesn’t have to go along with the plea agreement. There have been allegations that their was judicial misconduct but the solution to that isn’t to flee the country.

Polanksi disgusts me and I won’t watch any of his films.

Whoopie, Martin, Woody, and all the rest of you that think that it’s acceptable for a grown man to rape a half grown child, simply because he happens to be rich and famous- please pull your heads out of your hineys.  The only thing your dismissal of Polanski’s heinous crime does is make us wonder what skeletons you must have hidden in your closets.  What misdeeds have you covered up in your past, if the rape of a child is an excusable crime?

If conservatives and liberals can unite over the Polanski rape case, what’s next?  Agreement on health care?  Gun rights? Drilling for oil?  Well, one step at a time.

After the morning’s speakers and panels, and after my brush with fame lunch, Liz Cheney spoke to us about the importance of national security. Before she got into the topic at hand, she told us that she had asked her dad (former Vice President Dick Cheney) for some advice on speaking to us grass root activists. He told her, “They are the future of our country. Don’t screw it up.”  What a difference in thinking from some other politicians! This man actually understands the significance of the conservative brush fire sweeping through our country.

Ms. Cheney encouraged us to speak out against an administration that has diminished our ability to obtain information to save lives and prevent attacks.  Our unalienable, God given rights depend on our country having a Commander-in-Chief who will keep us safe. Which we are currently lacking.  Instead we have a Presidential Administration that would rather make the the brave men and women of the CIA the subject of a ridiculous witch hunt, rather than show them the gratitude and appreciation that they deserve.  Those CIA agents should have cookies baked for them, not have their pictures shown to terrorists who, under the Obama Administration, have a good chance of being released and planning more attacks on Americans. They hate us, you know. Really hate us. They believe it’s their mission to wipe us off the planet in the name of their god.  I’m sorry, why are we pandering to these slugs again?

There’s nothing wrong with walking softly, but as Teddy Roosevelt said, we need to carry a big stick. Freedom isn’t free, and America must negotiate from a position of strength.  I think that Ms. Cheney summed it up perfectly when she said, “America needs a Commander-in-Chief, not a global community organizer.”

Michelle Malkin then took the stage to talk about the significance of being an outspoken conservative woman, some of the challenges we will face, and the importance of not shutting up. She encouraged us moms to help our children embrace our history, not to be ashamed of it. We need to stay on top of what our children are learning in school, and make sure that they are not being educated to ensure a liberal majority in the next generation. It’s not the government’s role to tell us how to sneeze, and it’s certainly not the government’s role to tell us how to raise our kids.

Ms. Malkin explained that the thing that has heartened her the most about the recent and rapid rise of conservatism is that it’s from the ground up. “There’s this ENERGY,” she said.  Those in Washington keep moaning about re-branding the party, but all they need to do is come home and listen to their constituents.  The conservative movement is about holding our elected officials accountable. The accomplice to the crime of corruption is often our indifference, but one person can make a difference. Don’t be afraid to attend a protest, make a phone call, write a letter, or tell a friend what you think.

The last speaker of the day was Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who represents the 7th district of Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives. She began by saying that she wanted to teach us to put to work all of the things we’d learned throughout the day about activism and leadership. A conservative woman leader needs to do is get over the myths surrounding it.

Myth #1- “I don’t have the pedigree for that.”  Mythbuster- The best pedigree is hard work & self confidence. Every person has life experience, and they can put those skills together and use them as a building block to achieve their goals. Leadership is an action word, and the only pedigree you need to lead is the gumption to start down that path and grab some others as you walk it.

Myth #2- “I don’t have the special knowledge to do that.”  Mythbuster- There is no special knowledge that is greater than a determined, resourceful soul. You will gain the knowledge and subsequently the confidence you need to keep moving forward as you go along.

Myth #3-  “If I do this, other people will tell my story for me.” Mythbuster- If you don’t define yourself, somebody else will define you. Don’t be silent about your accomplishments, your beliefs, and your goals. Don’t be self-conscious about sharing your successes; take Rep. Blackburn’s grandmother’s advice, “It ain’t braggin’ if you done done it!.”

Myth #4- “I’m too afraid of failing.”  Mythbuster- In politics, the worst thing someone can say is that they won’t vote for you. We can get over that! There is a risk that you will fail, but if you never try, you’ll never succeed either. If you fail, dust yourself off and try again. Remember that two steps forward and one step back is still one step forward.

It is scary to go out into the world and practice what we preach. At Smart Girl Summit, we got to bask in the goal of conservative principles and ideals. Now it’s up to us to go out into the world and share that light with others. It won’t be easy. There will be doubt. You may wonder what’s going to happen if we fail to stop liberalism. Well, what’s going to happen if we fail to TRY?

Thank you, Smart Girl Politics, and especial Teri and Stacy for putting together such a wonderful event.

First, Playboy published an online article that pointed out ten beautiful, conservative women, and then the author described how he would like to “hate-f*ck” them. Playboy pulled the article after some public outrage that they were promoting rape. Playboy’s statement said something along the lines of, “We have supported women’s rights for the more than 55 years we’ve been in business, but only if they’re naked and need an abortion.” Ok, maybe I added that last part.

Liberal reporter Bonnie Erbe was asked by Smart Girl Politics Mama Lion Teri Christoph to come to women’s defense on this issue, because regardless of political conviction, we need to come together and stand up for our gender. Bonnie’s response? Well, she thought it was distasteful, but one woman in particular, Michelle Malkin, invited and deserved the attack. Seriously? No one deserves to have others fantasize about raping them.

Then, a few nights ago, Letterman made horrendously distasteful comments about Sarah and Willow Palin’s trip to New York. He said that Governor Palin looked like a “slutty flight attendant,” and then he took a shot at Palin’s daughter, saying, “during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.” Willow is fourteen years old, by the way.

The Palins of course shot back, saying the comments were inappropriate and despicable. Letterman responded by saying that he had meant to refer to Palin’s elder daughter Bristol, who is 18 and a new mom. Oh yeah, that makes it better. Excuse me while I roll my eyes.

And yesterday, Carrie Prejean was striped of her Miss California title yesterday, with the Miss Universe organization citing her inability to fulfill contract obligations as the reason for the firing. Prejean maintains that she did indeed fulfilled her obligations, was respectful to all parties involved (including sad, angry little semi-man Perez Hilton), and was shocked to learn of the firing. She even said the meanest thing I’ve ever heard her say, “They don’t like me. From day one they wanted me out and they got what they wanted.”

Stories like these make my blood boil. They demean women, and they need to stop. I do not want my two daughters growing up in a world where hate-f*ck lists and tasteless “jokes” about 14 year olds getting knocked up by grown men are culturally acceptable.

During the Miss America Pageant last Sunday, Miss California Carrie Prejean may have sacrificed the crown in exchange for her honesty on a hot button topic- homosexual marriage.

Prejean was asked by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton (who is incidentally is openly gay), “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?”

The drop dead gorgeous and obviously courageous Prejean might have briefly wavered, but stuck to her convictions and replied, “Well, I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage…And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be – between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”

Perez has since called her a “dumb bitch” on his infamous website. Hmmm… what happened to, “Dissent is patriotic,” which was the war cry of the left for the eight year duration of the Bush Presidency? On that note, Carrie is not even technically dissenting, since she stands with the majority of Californians that voted yes on Prop 8 last fall.

I have to wonder what would have happened if she had worded her response differently, perhaps saying, “I agree with President Obama on this issue. I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now, for me as a Christian — for me — for me as a Christian, it is also a sacred union. God’s in the mix… Because historically — because historically, we have not defined marriage in our constitution. It’s been a matter of state law. That has been our tradition. I mean, let’s break it down. The reason that people think there needs to be a constitutional amendment, some people believe, is because of the concern that — about same-sex marriage. I am not somebody who promotes same-sex marriage, but I do believe in civil unions. I do believe that we should not — that for gay partners to want to visit each other in the hospital for the state to say, you know what, that’s all right, I don’t think in any way inhibits my core beliefs about what marriage are. I think my faith is strong enough…that I can afford those civil rights to others, even if I have a different perspective or different view.

Guess what? That italicized text came directly from the Chosen One’s silver tongue last summer during the Saddleback Presidential Forum.

Just some food for thought.

You have come forward since your candidate’s defeat with the most preposterous blame game I have ever witnessed. “Palin is at fault!” you scream, desperate to point the finger anywhere but at McCain’s socialist-lite agenda, poorly run campaign, or unwillingness to play hard ball with his opponent.

You claim that this woman didn’t know that Africa is a continent, not a country, wasn’t aware of the countries involved in NAFTA, threw daily hissy fits over media reports, refused to take direction or accept coaching for interviews, and acted like a credit card carrying ditz on numerous shopping sprees.

I find it difficult to believe in this age of technology that not one person has caught any of that evidence on audio or video tape. I find it hard to believe that someone inclined to throw tantrums on a daily basis is the same person who took down the corrupt members of her own party in her own state, and renegotiated deals with the Big Boy oil companies to benefit her constituents rather than to continue to line the pockets of the Oil Elite. I find it difficult to believe that someone so materialistic is the same person that gave up a private jet as one of her first acts as Governor of Alaska. I find it difficult to believe that you truly had Sarah’s best interest at heart when you fed her to the lions named Gibson and Couric rather than letting her appear on The O’Reilly Factor, even after Bill apparently begged for the opportunity. I find it difficult to believe that someone as bumbling as you’re trying to portray her would possess the wherefore all to finally get the bill passed and the groundwork laid for the Alaskan pipe dream of the Alaskan pipeline, after thirty years at a standstill.

And now, our sweet Sarah has come out and apologized, saying, “If I cost McCain even one vote-I’m sorry.” She should be apologizing to President-Elect Obama, saying, “I’m sorry I cost you your landslide victory.”

Sarah Palin pumped more energy into the Republican party than we’ve seen in two decades. McCain’s campaign was dead in the water by late summer, right up until he announced Sarah as his running mate. She injected her charm and spirit into McCain’s rapidly sinking run for the White House, attracting Obama-sized crowds to rallies (where interestingly, the people chanted, “Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!” not, “John McCain! John McCain!”) and significantly boosted campaign funds. McCain’s campaign raised $47 million last August; $10 million of which came in the last three days of the month after McCain announced he had chosen Sarah to be his vice presidential running mate.

I know you are bitter, Insider. You’re probably upset that *Caribou Barbie* possesses the natural ability to inspire and lead, the determination to get the job done, the fearlessness to stand up for what is right even when standing alone, and to do it all with a flawless appearance and a baby on her hip. It must be difficult to constantly be around someone that has something that you feel rightfully belongs to you.

Let me let you in on a little secret: Name calling and finger pointing will get you no where, it will only make you look small and petty. Please go put on your grown-up pants, apologize to Governor Palin for your childish behavior, and thank her profusely when she inevitably forgives you and brushes it off her shoulder like she has so many other groundless attacks. If you play your cards right, you may even end up with a shot at White House Receptionist in 2012.

Sincerely,
A Sarah Palin Supporter
