It’s been over two weeks since an explosion on an oil rig killed eleven people and started spewing oil into the Gulf of Mexico at the rate of 210,000 gallons per day.

Two weeks.

The information has been spotty, to say the least. First the fallen rig wasn’t leaking. Then it was.

Then safety procedures in place since 1994 to burn off the crude oil in its earlier, containable stages were not followed.

Then some terrorist guy that graduated terrorism school in Pakistan before moving to the United States and becoming a citizen tried to blow up an SUV in Times Square in New York City. He almost got away too, after purchasing an airplane ticket and boarding the plane despite being on the on No Fly List. I seem to remember that panty bomber being on that list too. Don’t worry, I’m sure the system is working just fine. Solid B+, I say.

President Obama has been very busy. Attending Nerd Prom. That’s in-the-know way to refer to the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. I’ll spare you the embarrassment of having to ask like I did last week,”What the heck is Nerd Prom???”

Oh yeah, and Nashville’s quickly becoming the next Atlantis.

It’s time to do something, people.

Contact your Congressmen in Washington and tell them the answer to this slick disaster is not to bankrupt us by shutting off even more of our fuel.

Contact the FTA and let them know that if they’re going to have a no fly list, they might as well start actually enforcing it.

If you have the means, donate your time or money to help the mer-people of Nashville.

At least that’s what I’ll be doing. I refuse to feel helpless and sit back and twiddle my thumbs and hope everything turns out ok. Sometimes life throws you curve balls. Sometimes those stray balls smack you in the face. I’d rather be someone that gets back up to the plate, black eye and all, than someone that fears ball games for the rest of her life. Because if you never get back up to that plate, there’s no chance you’ll ever hit that home run.

Sorry for the baseball analogy. It was either that or American Idol, as both topics are dominating my tweet-stream at the moment…

The Climate Summit kicked off today in Denmark. Even though the big wigs involved don’t really believe they’ll accomplish anything, and you know, climate change is a hoax anyway. Government representatives from around the globe will be meeting to discuss how we can combat man-made global warming climate change. According to Al Gore and other scientists, global warming climate change is caused by carbon emissions.

Those scary carbon emissions are going to kill us all, aren’t they? The ice caps are melting and soon Florida will be under water! Everyone panic! If world leaders were truly convinced about the mass hysteria they’re promoting, I doubt they would’ve flown to Copenhagen in 140 private airplanes. The airport there can’t handle that many planes, so the planes fly in, drop off their VIP passengers, fly other airports to be stored until the VIPs are ready to be picked up in Copenhagen. And I doubt that they would have rented 1,200 limos. They rented so many gas guzzling limos that even more gas had to be guzzled as extras were driven in from Germany and Sweden to accommodate the VIPs. Guess how many hybrids were rented for the Climate Summit? Five.

Hypocrites.

Meanwhile, in the United States, our government now wants to tax our very breaths. It sounds like a ridiculous, hyperbolic horror story of a tragically oppressive government, but unfortunately, it’s happening right here, right now.

Please contact your Representative and Senators and let them know how you will vote in the next election cycle if they vote yes to bills that will oppress and tyrannize the most down-trodden of Americans. The ones that won’t be able to afford energy, groceries, or health care (just because they’ll have government health insurance does not mean they’ll have health care) when the costs skyrocket due to excessive government restriction and regulation. It’s time to start sticking up for the little people.

Mark Kirk is a politician masquerading as a Republican. He represents the 10th district of Illinois in the House of Representatives. He voted for the Cap and Trade bill last spring. He should be stripped of his (R).

Anyway, the dude decided to run for the Senate in 2010. Obama’s old seat. The one now filled by Roland Burris, who was appointed by Rod Blogojevich. You know, the governor that was caught selling the senate seat to the highest bidder and was subsequently kicked out of office? Well, before he left, he appointed Burris. And Burris is still there. It’s complete craziness.

But I have to stop talking about Burris and Blogojevich and how ludicrous the whole situation is before my head explodes.

Back to Mark Kirk. Who is running as a Republican against Burris for that much discussed seat. Since he’s running as a Republican, he’s had to address his “yes” vote on Cap and Trade, as no Republican that actually acted like one would have ever in a million years voted for it.

Here’s what he said:

“It was in the narrow interests of my congressional district…But, as your (senator), representing the entire state of Illinois, I would vote ‘no’ against the bill coming up, and that’s because we are manufacturing, agriculture and coal state.”

It’s ironic that by trying to sound more conservative in order to gain the Republican nomination, he just ended up sounding even more liberal. If he was fine screwing over the other 18 districts in Illinois “in the narrow interests” of his own turf, then I doubt he’d take issue screwing over the other 49 states in Illinios’ narrow interest.

Mr. Kirk, you may call yourself a Republican, but you are certainly not a conservative.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few months, you’ve undoubtedly heard about the Tea Party protests being held across the country. They are energizing rallies of liberty loving Americans who have the audacity to question the thousands of pages of bills that are being rammed through congress like a freight train. A freight train that is going to end up costing American taxpayers trillions of dollars.

Protesters want to know: Where is that money coming from, if not from the taxpayers? Why should the money I pay in taxes go to fund other people’s new cars or abortions?

We have the gall to question elected officials (who work for us) on their doublespeak. Please tell me, President Obama, were you lying last month when you said, “First of all, if you’ve got health insurance, you like your doctors, you like your plan, you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan. Nobody is talking about taking that away from you.” or in 2003 when you said, “A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”

People are attending townhall meetings with their representatives, and asking questions like, “Medicaid is broke, Medicare is broke, Social Security is broke and you want us to believe that a government that can’t even run a cash for clunkers program is going to run one-seventh of our U.S. economy?”

People want to know. There is a grassroots movement taking the country by storm, while being no more forceful than to ask tough questions, and maybe even sometimes ask those questions in a raised tone of voice. There have been thousands of these protests over the last six months, attended by millions of Americans. Guess how many arrests have been made for violence or obscenity at the Tea Party protests. Zero. Wow, what a group of wing nuts!

So how is our government and the media responding to these peaceful protests of upset Americans? By dismissing them. Insulting them. LYING about them.

Rachel Maddow says we’re “tea-baggers” a term I’m unfortunately newly familiar with.

Nancy Pelosi insists that protesters are “carrying swastikas and symbols like that to townhall meetings.”

Barbara Boxer told Chris Matthews the the protesters are nothing but angry and noisy “well-dressed middle-class people in pinks and limes… [the] Brooks Brothers Brigade.” She also told him (and his 8 viewers), “You in the media have to take a look at what’s going on here. This is all planned. It’s to hurt our president and it’s to change the congress.” I don’t know which is a more ridiculous notion: That the Tea Party movement was planned to hurt the president, or that MSNBC is considered “media” to some.

And the Democratic National Committee released a one minute ad yesterday that calls Tea Party protesters “right-wing extremists,” claims that we’ve “lost the confidence of Americans,” and “Now desperate republicans and their well funded allies are organizing angry mobs…their goal: to destroy President Obama.”

There are so many things to say about those comments that I’m not sure where to begin. How about the insult that Senator Boxer gave to liberal protesters? It’s probably not the best campaign move to insult those that put you in office. I can only assume that by saying the Tea Party protesters are too well dressed, she’s comparing them to liberal protesters. And if the Tea Party/conservative protesters are too well dressed (in Brooks Brothers, no less!), then the liberal protesters must be slobs.

What about Ms. Pelosi? Swastikas? Really? If you’re going to lie, at least make up something remotely believable.

Rachel Maddow- thank you so much for expanding my vocabulary to include tea-bagging. I’m really not sure how I could’ve lived the rest the my life without knowing what that classy term meant. Maybe you could learn some new vocabulary from the Tea Partiers too. Like liberty. Look it up, it’s a word worth knowing.

And as for hoping to destroy President Obama? Nope. Not the plan. Destroy his agenda to double or triple our energy costs, lead us to a single payer health care system, and generally spread the wealth around? Yeah. That’s worth bringing down. I will stand up to anyone that tries to steal my liberty and freedom. Given the explosion of peaceful protests recently, I’m not standing alone.

The 648 page American Clean Energy Security Act of 2009 is currently being considered by Congress as a way to usher in a new era of clean green energy, and a plethora of jobs along with it. This is the Cap & Trade program (scam) that Obama spoke of over a year ago that would “bankrupt the coal industry,” and “necessarily cause energy prices to skyrocket.”

I’m confused. Seriously, head-scratching, slack-jawed, eyes-darting-through-space-as-if-trying-to-pull-comprehension-from-thin-air confused. How exactly is a government run program that will bankrupt the coal industry (why aren’t they entitled to a bailout, by the way?) and cause energy prices to skyrocket going to be good for our economy? Talk about a bad time for Joe Sixpack. First, he gets fired from his job at the coal plant because his boss couldn’t afford to pay him anymore, due to the new fees he must pay for the privilege of producing carbon emissions. Then, a few weeks later, Joe’s electricity is shut off because, being unemployed and all, he can’t afford to pay his electric bill that has doubled or even tripled in cost. His old boss had to make up the cost of the new government fees by laying off portions of the work force, and by raising his prices to the consumer.

Where does that money go anyway? It will subsidize the green energy market, which will then ensure that green energy never becomes successful. Why feed and care for a cow when your neighbor is forced by the government to bring around a fresh pail of milk every morning?

Do you know what’s going to create green energy? People actually wanting it. Mother Necessity and all that. Here’s a little reminder for you that will having you humming along all day:

If people really wanted green energy, they would pay for it, even if it cost more. If enough people stopped purchasing *dirty* energy, it would no longer become profitable to produce it. It would then become necessary for the coal plants and oil refineries to step out of the way of the newer, cleaner form of energy production.

Now some people might say that new methods of producing cleaner energy need a *gentle nudge* from the government through the American Clean Energy Security Act of 2009. They may say, “It’s not fair that it costs more to produce green energy, and it’s not fair that consumers have to pay for the extra cost. Therefore, the government must step in and regulate energy production, for our own good.”

Phooey. I don’t think the energy industry needs any help from government. People will buy green energy when they want it, and if it’s a better product than our current energy produced mainly from coal and oil, our country will slowly begin to make the transition to the newer forms of energy production. And guess what? As the new energy gained popularity, the price would begin to decline, making it affordable to the middle class.

Before 1908, automobiles were playthings of the rich, costing upwards of $3,000 (average income was less than $500 per year). Thanks to the innovation and determination of one man, Henry Ford, the automobile ownership finally became achievable for the middle class in 1909, with the Model T, costing $850. By the 1920s, the price had fallen to $300. The government didn’t step in and force production of automobiles. Cars were a better mode of transportation than a horse and buggy. The market demanded an affordable car. People like Henry Ford produced it. When the market demands clean energy, I promise you in the American spirit of ingenuity, an entrepreneur like Henry Ford will deliver us clean energy at an affordable price.

Until then, I’m begging our representatives, senators, and President Obama to please get down off their elitist high horses and stop making decisions “in the best interest of the people.” I’m not sure how much more of your help we can take.
