From Business Week:

March 26 (Bloomberg) — AT&T Inc. will book $1 billion in first-quarter costs related to the health-care law signed this week by President Barack Obama, the most of any U.S. company so far.

A change in the tax treatment of Medicare subsidies triggered the non-cash expense, and the company will consider changes to the benefits it offers current and retired workers, Dallas-based AT&T said today in a regulatory filing.

Do liberals thinks that businessmen have huge vaults of gold that they swim around in like Scrooge McDuck?  That any and all profit they make gets locked away just so that greedy executives can have the pleasure of staring at it, smelling it, touching it?

Um, no. You see, people like to be successful.  They like to make their businesses bigger and better. You know, creating those… uh… what were they called again?  Oh yeah. Jobs. Didn’t people used to like having those things? I guess it doesn’t really matter anymore, since the government is now going to take care of all of our problems.

Do you know what happens when businesses get heavily taxed, yet don’t see any benefits? They have to make up that cost somewhere. Either with layoffs or by raising the price of their products or services. Or both.

But hey, at least we have free health care now.

At least until the doctors are too taxed to work.

Remember when those big CEO’s came to the government to ask for bail out money? Did they or did they not use private jets?

They don’t care about jobs. They only care about more money for themselves. I wonder how many of those fortune 500 companies that had to make major layoffs or drastic pay reductions were run by a CEO who took a pay cut them self. No, otherwise they might have to cut back from a mansion and sell off 1 of his 6 cars or heaven forbid the private jet.

I couldn’t care less about the corporations. Oh boo hoo, they might not make as much profit. Don’t you dare try to make Millionaire Business owners out to be the poor victim and pretend that they care about anything beyond them self. If they claim to care about the poor workers, they are also liars.

    Anon says, “Yes, the jerks!”

Now now, I never said that, I am sure they probably dont’ swim in their money but if someone touches one penny… watch out.

Wow, what do YOU think you said?
    Just curious.

Nothing about Scrooge McDuck at all. They may not be that bad, but I still don’t think they are as friendly and cuddly as she paints them out to be.

You’re right!! Never mentioned Scrooge McDuck at all!!! How could I be so dense!!!

Nancy Pelosi spends about $1,000 dollars a week on booze and noshings for her tax-payer funded cross-country flights alone. But she’s just out to help the little guy. Right.

Anon- of course companies care about their products, their services, their customers, and their employees. Do you know why? Because if they don’t, they go out of business. No business equals no money. Why is that concept so hard for you to grasp?

For the record, I was more appalled that the CEOs asked for bail-out money in the first place than their mode of transportation. If a company is going to fail, let it. I for one am glad that no one bailed out the horse and buggy companies a century ago.

Jenny, I am not a democrat, I am an independent. I am opposed to any person who abuses their status, whether it is Nancy or Pelosi or Sarah Palin. In my opinion, looking at both parties as an unbiased source, the republicans are just more greedy and more selfish. It seems that when people start to get more successful and have more money in business they lose that small time sentimentality that they had when they got into business and become more business oriented, more about profits than what will help their company.

After being part of companies laying off employees so a manager didn’t have to cancel an Aspen vacation, after watching board members fire highly trained teachers and librarians so they could hire new inexperienced employees so they could pay them less, After seeing CEO’s tell the government that even though their company is making more today (by trillions of dollars annually ) than ever before, they still need to raise prices and layoff employees just to keep from going bankrupt, after all of that I don’t think managers, CEO’s, bigwigs, etc. care about the lowly workers.

After companies like Starbucks and Walmart and Costco come into an area and wipe out local mom and pop shops, I don’t think that Big Companies care about the “little guys”.

Its about money, even when they treat their employees nice and give them great benefits and do what ever they can to keep them happy, its just about money. A companies generosity can be overturned in the blink of an eye.

When is the last time you applied for a real job? Do you remember signing a section on that application that said that at any time a company can end your termination with or without reason, with or without explanation? Its so that they can look out for the business and get rid of any and all people, no matter how good of a worker for any reason at all. Twice in my life I’ve been fired without good reason. Once so that the managers cousin could have a job, even though that same cousin had no qualifications and stole thousands from that company prior to and during his employment.

My point, power can corrupt. Very few people with lots of money or power don’t abuse it in some way. If someone has earned millions and they want to use a lot of it having personal fun, that’s fine. If they don’t want to help out the lower members of the totem poll, that’s OK. Its their right. They earned the money, they can do as they please. But don’t act like they are the next messiah or that they have the bottom man’s interest at stake. Don’t pass what you call the “Cure all” out and pretend it is anything more than a way for you to keep or make more money.

Lastly, the Pelosi family is worth 12.5 million dollars, They have earned that money through their own businesses from Wineries to Real estate to wise investments. If she wants to spend a thousand dollars on her own personal life, that is fine with me. Especially when she has proven time and time again that she supports the issues I agree with. No, she isn’t perfect. But who is?

  10. Jenny says:

Maybe I should have made that more clear: Nancy Pelosi charges the tax-payers for her in-flight parties. I really don’t care what she spends her own money on, but I do care how she spends mine.

  11. Anon says:

After doing a bit of research on that claim, and seeing the supposed “Receipt”, common sense would lead you to wonder how a 70 year old woman can put away 750 ml Johnny Walker, 70cl of 80 proof Grey Goose Vodka, 750 of E&J Brandy, 750 of Baileys, 750 of Makers Marx, cognac, Bicardi, courvoisier, couple different gins and a bottle of Jack. This is one flight, this is an older woman, with an older crowd. I somehow doubt that she personally was responsible for that fee. And just for the record that average of 1000 dollars a week is travel expenses over 2 years. Not necessarily on the alcohol. During that time she was required by George W. Bush to be flying in large plains that were capable of being able to be refueled in the air.

After a pentagon investigation, they said the costs were high, but The Pentagon said “no one has rendered judgment” that Pelosi’s use of aircraft “is excessive

She was #2 in line for becoming president in emergency situations. She probably had to do a lot of traveling, short notice, long distances and lots of hours, flying is expensive. She had a job to do. I stand by her.

I however will be more than happy to appoligize if you can cite a piece of evidence that didn’t come from Fox News that shows me that Nancy Pelosi personally is specifically using taxpayer money to buying truckloads of alcohol for her flights.

  12. Rocin says:

Didn’t you just know that it was basically Bush’s fault?

  13. Jenny says:

    That is freaking awesome.

    No really.

Of COURSE it’s Bush’s fault! How could it not be?

For the record, I don’t care if she bathed in the dang stuff, the fact is that she put it on her tab, the one picked up by me and you. Why doesn’t that bother you?

And just in case you couldn’t tell, that was a rhetorical question. That means it’s supposed to make you think, and doesn’t require a response.

    Have a nice day. :-)

  14. Anon says:

Wow, way to twist the answer to fit your beliefs. I said Bush was requiring her among others to use larger aircraft that could be refueled in the air for all flights. Thus higher costs.

And the one simple question I ask is can you tell me how you know for sure that Pelossi said, “Hey bartender, throw on another bottle of jack and put it all on my tab!”

They claim to have found this receipt but offer no evidence to where it has come from, or proof that Pelossi is the one who approved it. If she had indeed spent thousands of dollars a week on this much alcohol and unneeded flights, putting it all on the taxpayer dime, perhaps the Pentagon or Bush would have punished her for her actions when they did an investigation. Not only did they not punish her, but they said that her spending is not excessive, nor unusual for a person in her position.

I know you’ll find a way to twist that into your own version of the truth. You always do.

  15. Jenny says:

Have you heard of Google? Sheesh. No wonder you’re brainwashed, you’re incapable of finding any information on your own. Since you need to be hand-held, here you go: http://www.businessinsider.com/nancy-pelosis-in-flight-food-and-drink-costs-101000-2010-1

If you have the time, be sure to thumb through this 2,000 page report detailing her travel expenditures. http://www.judicialwatch.org/story/2010/jan/nancy-pelosi-air-force-documents

As for her not getting into trouble over it; that’s my point. That dems get away with pretty much everything except murder (except for the Kennedys of course, they’re allowed to murder people), while conservatives are called tea-bagging racists by supposed news anchors. Which is bad enough on its own, but for some reason people like you continue to believe that the dems are the ones that really want to help people.

How many times have you told people in the past to prove what they said with evidence…. quite a few, but never with common sense.

A few days ago I asked a child who knew you very well what they thought of you, This little girl who didn’t really have many bad things to say about anybody shared with me that you are someone who doesn’t understand how good your life is and you don’t care about anybody else around you. she described you as being a selfish and greedy girl. She also said that you would never understand that you were anything less than a saint.

Weird, as those are the same things that I’ve thought of you for awhile.

Anyways, this isn’t goodbye, but just see you around. I’m going to be giving some space to this website and a rest to my fingers,

You ranting to the 3-5 people who read this site won’t effect the world ever. Even when you branch out to the “smart” girl politics pages. Ranting to other like minded people will never effect the world. Feel free to voice your opinion within your padded rooms, but for now, I’m off to saner grounds, I’ll be waiting for you if you ever decide to join me. I’ll even bring you a “vino or a coke zero” just for you.

  17. Rocin says:

Was the little girl named “anon”?

  18. James Alexander says:

ANON is actulally the innitials of my real name. convenient, huh?

    Last comment, I swear.

Honestly, I wish you all the best in your personal lives and I really don’t enjoy your miseries with the government, however, I just hope and pray that one day you all, Jenny Erikson, “Rocin”, and anyone else that sides with you all, learn non that you are wrong, but at least that sometimes there are sometimes more than one right answer

  19. Jenny says:

So you use a “real” name, and it’s not even a real name? Oh you brave, brave soul, fighting for humanity while hiding behind a computer screen and an alias. You should be commended. Check in with John Kerry, he probably has a medal for you.

  20. Nancy says:

In case ANON changes his mind and reads this again. My husband works for a small mid sized business. They aren’t small sized in government standards, in a good year they’ll do over $100 million in gross receipts. Last year no one got a raise and all of the owners took a 5% pay cut and I know at least 3 of the owners are worth a few million dollars. So don’t tell me that these rich business people NEVER make sacrifices. They are making as many sacrifices as they can so they can keep as many employees on as possible while we swim around in this recession depression.
I wonder what you think of Al Gore who took a personal jet to celebrate Green Hour. Why do you not harp on all of the liberal politicians who run our country and are wealthy?
What irritates me more than ANYTHING is everyone harps on these big CEOs who care nothing for anything but their own self interests. BUT aren’t AL GORE, NANCY PELOSI, and OBAMA the same? They will have different health care options than what we have, they can spend their money as they please. If it was a level playing field for all then move forward but it isn’t so you can’t complain about one side and leave the complete hypocrisy of the other side out.
