Our VP can always be counted on to say the most insane things at the most bizarre times.  He did not dissapoint last night on Larry King.  Let me share with you some of the gems he dropped.

Regarding airplane attacks by Muslim extremists:

“I think what you’re seeing morphing here – and it’s a concern to us – is you’ll see the concern relates to somebody like a shoe bomber or the underpants bomber, the Christmas attack or someone just strapping a backpack on them with weapons that are indigenous and blowing up, you know, walking into in airport…I think there are going to be attempts.”  Biden also insisted that the Obama administration, which ordered a review of security and terrorism procedures after the Christmas Day incident, is prepared to deal with such attempts. “I’ve been really impressed with the success we’ve had, building on the last administration, in dealing with these.”

Hmm… I feel safe now.  Especially since the head of Homeland Security thinks the system works, but just in case it doesn’t, let’s steal pillows from toddlers during the last 90 minutes of all flights.

Regarding that three-letter word JOBS:

“I think now the jobs bill, I think, will be probably less than is needed initially, but it will be very helpful…by the spring, I think people are going to begin to have more confidence in the policies we’ve put in place.”

Is this the same Jobs Bill that extends unemployment benefits?  Why don’t they just go ahead and call it a “don’t bother looking for work because we’re going to pay you even longer to sit at home heckling the *rich* people providing for your existence”?  Too long?  Bummer.

Regarding Iraq:

“I am very optimistic about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration…You’re going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer.”

So he’s optimistic about having the troops home, not about Iraq or our own national security.  When the US leaves, the fledgling democracy in Iraq will most likely crumble to the extremists, and we’ll see all sorts of lovely new terrorist cells plotting the destruction of the US.  Perfect.

Regarding Sarah Palin (this by far is my favorite):

“I like her…She’s an engaging person. She has a great personality. I don’t agree with what she says and I think some of the things she says are not – well…Well, you know, it’s sort of like – some of the comments made are just so far out there, I just don’t know where they come from.”

Seriously Joe? Maybe you could explain some of your comments before you go ripping into Sarah Palin for her far-out comments.

Anyone that even attempts to delve into the black hole that is Joe Biden’s brain deserves kudos. I consider myself an intelligent person, but every time I hear him say something, I find myself wondering, “What the hell did he just say?”

  2. Froy Juarez says:

Political parties turn Republicans and Democrats into bickering children. I mean, it really doesn’t matter what Democrats do, you right wingers are going to find something to nit pick about. If it were one of your own people, you would find scape goats for the negatives or maybe even praise valiant efforts.

You don’t agree with Obama, or Biden or most of the democrats on The Hill. Does that mean they are wrong? No, not necessarily. They have one view on how to deal with this country and you have another.

Just for the record, you know nothing of the unemployment plan in this country. They don’t just hand you a check and say have fun. There are several rules and guidelines to get this check. One of these rules is that you must look for jobs every week. You will only get a check if you continue looking for a job. Not only do they ask you if you looked, but you must provide a name, address, and status of application to every job you apply to. Also, this unemployment plan has gotten extensions but they are not infinite. The money does have a cap so Thousands of previously well to do families or people who have recently lost their jobs are losing homes. Its based on a small percentage of your pay from your most previous employer, so you just barely get by.

Don’t assume every person or even most people on the unemployment system are lazy bums sitting on the freeway off ramp with a sign asking for money and the government just keeps throwing it their way. They are struggling much more than you give them credit for.

  3. Jenny says:

Froy, please find one time where I’ve made excuses for a Republican just because they happened to be a Republican.

I happen to believe that Obama and Biden and other dems like Pelosi and Reid are wrong, because they are defying the Constitution. That document that created the greatest country on the planet. Ever. That doesn’t make Republicans right, and it doesn’t mean I think all dems are wrong. It simply means that I think it’s right to adhere to founding principles.

I know enough of unemployment by listening and observing. I know too many people that are upset when their unemployment ends so that they have to get a job. I know too many people bitter about losing their jobs, determined to squeeze as much as they can out of their ex-employers by way of unemployment “benefits”. I know enough about human nature to understand that people will not work unless they must.

I’m also curious why you believe I think that everyone on unemployment is a homeless bum sitting on a freeway ramp asking for my money?

It’s ironic that you assume I have certain assumptions and then try to debate me on them. Why don’t you try addressing the things that I actually write, instead of what you think I think?

  4. Froy Juarez says:

The bum standing on the freeway was a metaphor. You just write about the unemployed as if all they do is sit around mooching off the government. If the people you know are moochers, perhaps you should associate yourself with more honest people. Most people aren’t like that.

My point about the difference between Republicans and Democrats, you think that they are wrong for “defying the constitution”. Democrats feel the same way about people like Bush, Palin, McCain.

One Example how republicans “Defy” the Constitution

Homosexual Equality. The Declaration of Independence first addressed equality amongst all people and was later addressed again in the Constitution. Bush, McCain, and Especially Palin all cited religious reasons for not allowing the same rights to all Americans. Just out of curiosity, isn’t it the same document, the Constitution of the United States of America that cites the separation of Church and State? Hmmm… No offense, but they all “Defied” the Constitution. Just as you blame Obama, Pelossi, and Biden of doing.

My point is not that you are wrong and they are right. Its merely that both sides spend so much time blaming the other party. Nobody understands that both sides play the exact same game, in their own way. Its just which side you believe in more.

  5. Jenny says:

Who said I was against gay marriage? Who said that I identify 100% with every Republican issue? I did not say that democratic ideas are unconstitutional, I said the goals of a few particular dems are unconstitutional. You’re the one making this about R vs. D, not me.

And it’s a fact that anyone that accepts unemployment is a moocher. It’s not right or wrong, it just is. Just like my kids are mooching off of me. That’s fine, they’re kids. And it may be fine for ex-employees to receive a certain stipend when they’re let go. But that should be between the employer and the employee, not mandated by the government. Government mandates deny businesses free choice and in many cases cause them to close up shop.

If you believe it’s good for companies to go out of business because the government decides how much they must pay ex-employees, then I can’t help you. But please don’t complain about the 10% unemployment rate.

Hate to say it Jenny, but I really agree with Froy. You identify this site as a Conservative Site, you have links to Republican pages, you identify yourself as a “Conservative GOP Babe”. I would classify this page as not a personal blog site but as a Republican Blogger Site.

And he doesn’t say you agree with homosexual equality, he said Republicans cited religion as a way to legalize the discrimination of equality.

Also, a mooch is defined as

    mooch
/mutʃ/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [mooch] Show IPA Slang.
    –verb (used with object)
    1. to borrow (a small item or amount) without intending to return or repay it.
    2. to get or take without paying or at another’s expense; sponge: He always mooches cigarettes.

Technically speaking, the unemployed don’t necessarily do unemployment without repaying it. Unemployment is taxed. Being qualified from unemployment also affects companies decisions on whether or not to give credit, HOA decisions on whether or not to rent units, and many other factors. They do pay for their unemployment quite a bit.

My boyfriend has been struggling for a long while after losing his job. He has applied for everything from Administrtion to Burger Tossers. He’s even taken every temporary job he could and is still on unemployment. His friends in similar situations are honest hard working people who have been forced into terrible situations because of this poor economy.

I’m not saying that unemployment is not good for companies but too many companies exercise greed and too many Wall Street Companies, Fortune 500 companies would rather lay off 500 workers than let their CEO go without a private jet or lower their profits.

  7. Evalynne Beth says:

I think my comment got deleted or something, basically I agree with Froy. You are running a republican blog site Jenny. You identify your opinion as that of the candid conservative, not as Jenny but as the Conservative GOP Babe.

You may not agree with everything that is a “republican view” but I don’t think Froy was talking about you but as the Republican view in general.

Also by definition moochers take without paying. They may not be paying cash but my boyfriend pays taxes on his unemployment, his credit suffers, we can’t find a new place so we are stuck with 3 room mates. Trust me, we pay. It may not be with money but we do pay.

  8. Jenny says:

For some reason your 1st comment went in the spam folder Ev. No idea why…

  9. Mommentator says:

I am so glad to see that the liberals on this site believe people should be or are responsible for the unemployment benefits they receive. Likewise with social programs, I would guess. I can’t wait to see their bipartisan support of the current initiatives to require drug testing for all those receiving state and federal funded benefits. That will be a really nice hand-in-hand sort of moment for our parties, don’t you think?

I find it funny that Evalynne Beth complains of her unemployed boyfriend while basically nodding an affirmation to this post. You would think that with the extensive funding that has been thrown at the issue you complain of, you would see a significant change in the unemployment rate. The point: your administration should be helping you by now as evidenced by your Vice-President’s comment. Are you feeling more optimistic about JOBS, Evalynne?

This blog is not a REPUBLICAN blog, it is a Conservative blog and the entry here is in regard to specific quotes from the administration by a bumbling baboon who, if it was said by GWB, you would be calling every name in the book. Of course, you make it a personal issue because you cannot argue that Biden made a bit of sense in the above quotes.

Why don’t you try addressing the issue rather than attacking the author? The author is not calling anyone a bum, rather, she states that the unintended consequence of further spending (ahem, borrowing from Chinese) in the form of extending benefits doesn’t lend incentives for a speedier reentry. Likewise, it makes unemployment benefits taxed to employers (which, incidentally, is quite a bit higher than the worker/or in this case unemployed person pays) go UP, making it more difficult for companies to rehire. It’s a two-prong bad idea.

I expect you don’t understand the issue since you went personal. So, if you’re interested more in personal, why don’t you find a place to spew some off-topic remarks? Your comments are only useful for discussion if you actually add to the post.

If I were the author, I would have spammed your comments as that is what they are.

  10. Evalynne Beth says:

I don’t know why my comments keep ending up in your spam folder, I think one more ended up there. I thank you though Jenny for helping to keep my comments alive. :)
